New Testimony

The Founding Era & The Idea of America.
Media Law & Literacy: WEEK 3

After viewing the two videos and examining the key details described through the Supreme Court history video, it seems as though the historical values and ideas that have been installed over centuries ago are still being held closely with tradition and continued now through present day.

In the beginning of Part 1, it is described that the court systems have always sided with the President and the majority and popularity since the beginning of time. I found that the quote, "Their legitimacy is in the constitution, but their power rests on public faith", to be very controversial, especially during our current societies challenges that have rooted from the altercations and issues that have derived from judges and courtrooms strictly enforcing and interpreting laws and guidelines that have been pre inspirited in a constitution that was written over 200 years ago.

I find it almost disturbing at times how scary and unpredictable some cases are in the court room currently in our society, one case that seems to be extremely bad could go in a good direction while another case that is of lesser degree and value could result in a greater conviction. It all depends on the jury, the time, the place, the day, the lawyer and the person being convicted. It is terrifying to think that all of these moving parts and different factors could untimely equal life or death of a person.

As new laws are created, altered, and overall disregarded through different circumstances, I feel as though the constitution should be upheld and revamped in order to properly fit the flaws that have become present through previous court cases that have gone wrong. We are a highly evolving and changing society that is moving at a totally different speed than ever before, I feel that it is necessary
for our constitution to fit our new era.
